Preparing yourself for class

  • Review the Study Material: Our Flight students are provided with comprehensive study materials, which include textbooks, manuals, and online resources. They begin by thoroughly reviewing these materials to ensure a solid understanding of the theoretical aspects of aviation, including aerodynamics, regulations, weather, and navigation.

  • Ground School: Many flight schools offer ground school courses, which are classroom sessions led by certified flight instructors. Drake takes this concept a step further by reducing commute times and offering hybrid training both at the airport and online. These sessions cover the theoretical knowledge required for the specific test or certification. Attending ground school helps students clarify doubts and gain insights into complex topics.

  • Flight Simulator Practice: Flight students often make use of flight simulators to practice and reinforce their flight skills. These simulators replicate the aircraft's cockpit and allow students to practice procedures, navigation, and emergency scenarios in a controlled environment.

  • Pre-Flight Briefings: Before each flight, students have pre-flight briefings with their flight instructors. During these briefings, students review the flight plan, weather conditions, and specific maneuvers or procedures they'll be tested on. This is also an opportunity to ask questions and seek clarification on any concerns.

  • Mock Checkrides: Flight schools frequently conduct mock checkrides or practice tests and Drake is no different. These simulate the actual test conditions and are conducted by experienced flight instructors and aim to instill confidence. They provide valuable feedback on a student's performance and highlight areas that need improvement.
